“Met ‘Talent in Focus’ brengt Photo31 elke maand een fototalent onder de aandacht. Deze maand de prachtige fotografie van Mirella Sahetapy.
Mirella Sahetapy fotografeert geënsceneerde beelden. Ingehouden en droog, soft en rauw tegelijk. Haar foto’s gaan over afwezigheid, het ontkennen van emotie door het wegdraaien van vormen en houdingen, het ontkennen van kleur, deze worden afgezwakt en soms vergrijsd, en het ontbreken van uitspattingen. De foto’s die ze schetsmatig in daglicht schiet zijn de basis voor het uiteindelijk zorgvuldig bewerkte beeld. Ze bedenkt een voorstelling in haar hoofd, laat daarna het idee los, maakt een decor, bewerkt stoffen, maakt props en fotografeert ze intuïtief. Het ruwe beeld bewerkt ze vervolgens digitaal in kleur, toon en structuur. De vorm en het idee worden pas dan ‘besloten’ en uitgewerkt. Mirella Sahetapy studeerde cum laude af aan de Design Academy Eindhoven, richting Man & Identity. Eerder werk werd genomineerd voor de Dutch Photographers SO Award.

With ‘TALENT IN FOCUS’, Photo31 brings a photo talent to the attention every month. This month (December 2021) the beautiful photography of Mirella Sahetapy.
Mirella Sahetapy photographs staged images. Restrained and dry, soft and raw at the same time. Her photographs are about absence, denying emotion by turning away shapes and postures, denying color, these are toned down and sometimes grayed out, and the lack of excesses. The photographs that she sketches in daylight are the basis for the ultimately carefully edited image. She comes up with an image in her head, then lets go the idea, makes a decor, processes fabrics, makes props and photographs them intuitively. She then digitally edits the raw image in color, tone and structure. The form and the idea are only the ‘decided’ and worked out. Mirella Sahetapy graduated Cum Laude at the Design Academy Eindhoven/NL, Man&Identity. Her work has been nominated for the Dutch Photographers SO Award.”
